- Assistant Technical Coordinator/Chemist (Hazardous Waste Treatment)
Description
Our client is one of the UK’s leading waste and resource management companies, with over 200 facilities and 4,200 employees across the UK.
A vacancy currently exists for an Assistant Technical Coordinator/Chemist to assist the Waste Treatment Division with the technical assessment of enquiries, preparation of transportation documentation, collation of data for site records, and preparation of data for invoicing. You will play a key role in ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards, and support the efficient and safe operation of the company’s waste treatment facilities.
Main Duties:
Assisting with technical control activities of the sales enquiry process, ensuring legal compliance and good practice
Interpreting waste data to determine composition, safe handling, disposal requirements and correct classification
Gathering information from waste producers and customers to make valid judgments on waste composition
Obtaining and negotiating third-party quotes and setting prices to meet business goals
Negotiating with suppliers of waste management services to control costs and meet site targets
Developing working relationships with customers to meet revenue targets
Advising customers on waste regulations, safe packaging, and handling of their waste
Assisting with the implementation of Health and Safety Policy, SHE Manual, and statutory regulations
Preparing transport and waste documentation, and advising drivers and clients
Ensuring that activities related to waste movement conform to legal requirements and budgeted costs
Maintaining flexible working arrangements to maximise operational efficiency
Supporting compliance with all relevant company and statutory environmental requirements
 
Candidate Requirements:
Degree in Chemistry or a related subject
Experience in the hazardous waste treatment industry or chemical industry would be advantageous
Knowledge of transport of hazardous goods would be advantageous
Confident in using the MS Office suite
Strong problem-solving skills, using chemical hazard and properties information to determine safe handling and disposal methods
Ability to work both as part of a small team under supervision and independently
Customer-focused and able to communicate confidently with people at all levels
Flexible attitude to work, especially during peak times.
 
This vacancy is for a full-time position, working five days per week. Work hours are 40 hours per week, typically 08:00–17:00. Alternative shifts: 07:00–16:00 or 08:30–17:30 for cover.
