We are looking for an enthusiastic and professional individual to join the Kent and South London area Installations team. You will be joining a team where the environment is the priority and the work is varied, challenging and interesting. Salary and grading will be based on experience and skills. A training and development programme is available for the successful applicant.
You will be responsible for the regulation of sites with Installations permits under the Environmental Permitting Regulations, which will mainly be Landfill/Deposit for Recovery, Biowaste Treatment and Hazardous and Non-Hazardous Waste treatment sites. However, the team also regulates the following sectors: Paper and Pulp, Combustion, Incineration, Chemicals, Food and Drink, and Oil/gas.
Your work will involve:
Ensuring permit compliance - by conducting site inspections and audits, you will be assessing the operator’s ability to protect the environment, prevent pollution and optimise resources.
Analysis and interpretation of environmental monitoring and performance data.
Undertaking appropriate enforcement and remediation action to a range of non-compliances and environmental incidents at permitted sites.
Using your influencing and negotiating skills to ensure best practice.
Working with other regulatory bodies, authorities, and other stakeholders.
Dealing with people at all levels within industry, local communities and other interested groups.
The post-holder will also be expected to take part in our assessment of and response to environmental incidents.
Requirements
We are seeking a proactive, self-motivated and confident communicator with practical operational experience and understanding of environmental regulation.
You will be able to demonstrate:
Significant regulatory or equivalent industrial experience across a range of industries.
Excellent influencing skills and success in developing good relations in complex environments.
Experience in delivering environmental improvements using a range of tools.
Works in teams to support colleagues to achieve common goals.
Ability to manage multiple demands on time in a prioritised manner to achieve outcomes and deliver against plans.
A proven track record of taking initiative and using a continuous improvement approach.
You will hold an honours degree (or equivalent), ideally in a science or engineering discipline.
