Bristol Waste Company is a purpose driven Teckal organisation, wholly owned by Bristol City Council, delivering essential environmental services on behalf of and in close partnership with its Shareholder. Operating at the heart of the city’s public service ecosystem, we play a critical role in supporting Bristol’s wider social, environmental and strategic goals.

The municipal waste sector is undergoing significant transformation, driven by regulatory reform, rising sustainability expectations, infrastructure modernisation, and the increasing need for efficient, data-led operations. Bristol faces many of these sector wide pressures: improving recycling performance, decarbonising fleet operations, modernising collection systems, and contributing to the city’s carbon neutral ambitions. These challenges create a pivotal moment for strategic leadership and innovation.

We are seeking an exceptional Non-Executive Director to join our Board at this important stage in our evolution. As we enter a new contract period and continue the modernisation of our operations, fleet and systems, we are looking for a NED with expertise in one or more of the following areas:

Waste management or environmental operations
Business process engineering (LEAN, Six Sigma, automation)
Technology, digital transformation or enterprise systems
Complex operational or regulated service environments

You will provide independent oversight, strategic challenge and support for our continuing operational improvement and long term transformation. You will help ensure strong governance, accountability, financial stewardship and alignment with our shareholder’s priorities.
