A leading global financial services organisation is seeking an AVP-level Sustainability Communications Manager to join its high-performing Corporate Affairs function. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape and deliver the external sustainability and climate communications strategy for a major international institution.
The Role
In this newly created position, you'll play a key part in developing and executing strategic external communications around sustainability, climate, and corporate responsibility. Working closely with colleagues across Corporate Affairs- including Media Relations, Digital, Employee Communications and Strategic Policy- you will help promote and protect the organisation's reputation on a broad range of environmental and sustainability issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the delivery of a cohesive external sustainability communications strategy across owned and earned channels.
- Develop proactive news flow, campaigns and thought leadership content aligned to the organisation's wider purpose and strategy.
- Draft and refine communications materials, digital content and sustainability narratives for external audiences.
- Manage media enquiries at pace, providing clear advice and risk-aware judgement.
- Cultivate strong relationships with key journalists, industry bodies and other external stakeholders.
- Identify and mitigate reputational risk, including supporting on sensitive or complex issues.
- Provide strategic counsel to senior stakeholders on sustainability-related communications.
We're looking for a confident communicator with strong editorial judgement and experience delivering impactful sustainability-focused communications. The ideal candidate will bring:
- Experience in media relations (agency or in-house) within a fast-moving press environment.
- Strong understanding of sustainability, climate strategy, ESG policy and the wider external landscape.
- Experience working within financial services or another regulated industry (highly desirable).
- Strong journalist relationships across business, finance and trade media.
- Proven ability to deliver creative storytelling, compelling thought leadership and digital content.
- Experience handling sensitive issues and navigating complex stakeholder groups.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Resilience, adaptability and the ability to thrive in a matrixed, dynamic environment.
