Description
Terms and Conditions: 37 hours per week, Permanent
Department: Environment & Resident Services
Interview date: 22nd or 23rd January 2026
Are you ready to lead transformative change and make a visible impact on the community every single day? We’re looking for an ambitious, innovative, and passionate Street Scene Manager to join our Environment & Residents Department. This is more than a job—it’s a chance to create cleaner, greener, and safer spaces for everyone.
Why This Role Matters
As Street Scene Manager, you’ll be at the heart of delivering essential services that touch every resident’s life—from beautiful parks and play areas to effective street cleansing and environmental crime prevention. You’ll manage a diverse portfolio including green spaces, arboriculture, pest control, dog control, waste enforcement, cemeteries and crematorium services, fly-tipping removal, bulky waste collections and street cleansing. Your leadership will ensure these services run efficiently, safely, and to the highest standards.
What You’ll Do
Lead and Inspire: Manage a team of Assistant Managers and operational staff, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Drive Strategy and Change: Shape and deliver key strategies such as the Public Open Space Strategy, Play Provision Strategy, and Enviro Crime Strategy.
Champion Commercial Growth: Identify and develop income-generating opportunities, ensuring financial sustainability while improving services.
Engage Communities: Work proactively with local residents, partners, and stakeholders to create vibrant, welcoming spaces that everyone can enjoy.
Ensure Excellence: Oversee compliance with health and safety legislation, manage budgets effectively, and implement performance frameworks that inspire success.
What We’re Looking For
You’ll bring a proven track record in delivering high-quality street scene services and managing complex operations. Strong leadership, excellent communication skills, and the ability to build relationships at all levels are essential. You’ll be confident in problem-solving, managing multiple projects, and driving innovation. Proficiency in tools like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, GIS, and Project is a must, along with knowledge of street scene legislation and safe working practices.
Why You’ll Love It Here
This is a role where no two days are the same. You’ll have the autonomy to make decisions, the support of a collaborative team, and the opportunity to see the tangible results of your work across the Borough. We value Trust, Respect, Ambition, Collaboration, and Kindness—and we live by these principles every day.
If you’re ambitious, solutions-focused, and ready to lead a service that truly makes a difference, we want to hear from you. Join us and help shape a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future for our community.
