The Group Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) Department is responsible for ensuring that Costain operates in a safe, healthy, and environmentally responsible manner through the implementation of the Group SHE Management System and Group SHE Plan. The Group SHE Management System provides a framework and standards for managing safety, health and environmental risks and opportunities and aims to prevent injury, ill health and provide a safe working environment and protect and enhance the natural environment in balance with socio-economic requirements throughout all our activities and operations. The departments’ purpose is to protect employees, the community, and the environment while ensuring that Costain operates sustainably and complies with relevant legislation and regulations.

To support the Contract Environmental functions, provide, and support Environmental solutions and enable the Contract / Operational Teams to implement the Group SHE Management System.
To build and maintain relationships with all stakeholders, whilst providing an independent and objective view of SHE Performance on the Contract.

Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
Support and Influence Contract Leadership Team, Clients, and other Stakeholders in compliance with the Group SHE Management System and Contract Environmental Performance
Support and where required deliver training, to allow the contract team to successfully implement the Group SHE Management System
Coach and support the Contract Operational and Supply Chain Contractors in the delivery of the Contract Environmental requirements
Where required be actively involved in the ongoing assessment of the Contracts Supply Chain Contractors
Actively support the delivery of the annual Contract and Group SHE Objectives
Actively engage with the Contract Environmental Assurance programme to ensure compliance with company and statutory requirements
Actively support the investigation of all unplanned events and close out of assurance findings, ensuring lessons are shared in accordance with the SHE Management System
Support the timely reporting, analysis, and use of Environmental data to support and influence the Contract Leadership Team and where required support the development and implementation of data-based improvement plans
Experience
Essential:
Environmental related experience
Desirable:
Significant relevant Environmental experience in relevant industry
Qualifications
Essential:
Environmental Degree or equivalent
PIEMA or equivalent (working towards MIEMA/ CEnv)
Desirable:
Over 5 years relevant Environmental experience in relevant industry
MIEMA CEnv or equivalent
